Summertime. Imagine sitting outside on the green grass, under a cloudless blue sky. The sun is shining, the air is clean. And after a while, your legs are burning up.

The attic is hotter than the rest of the house, and it has a bit of a woody musk to it. Dusty air and creaky floors. The shades are drawn to keep the oppressive heat out. But it's only halfway dark in here, as sweet sunbeams slip through the slits in the blinds, the floor illuminates the ceiling.

When night falls, it's later than you thought it was. The house is silent, all you hear is the humming electric light and the symphony of crickets outside. Black outside, yellow inside. Blue on your face when you look at the computer screen. Your eyes are getting heavy. The air smells like night, believe it or not. Wet and cool. The rain will start and stop before you wake up tomorrow.
